Frequently Asked Questions
No, you do not have to fill out the NOIM papers with me. Please refer to the NOIM forms link above and it states on page 4: This Notice must be signed in the presence of any of the following:
If NOIM paper are signed in Australia—an authorised celebrant, a Commissioner for Declarations under the Statutory Declarations Act 1959, a justice of the peace, a barrister or solicitor, a legally qualified medical practitioner, or a member of the Australian Federal Police or the police force of a State or Territory;
OR
If a party signs the Notice outside Australia—an Australian Consular Officer, an Australian Diplomatic Officer, a notary public, an employee of the Commonwealth authorised under paragraph3(c) of the Consular Fees Act 1955, or an employee of the Australian Trade Commission authorised under paragraph 3(d) of the Consular Fees Act 1955.
Please note that I will have to sight your original documents (original birth certificates, Australian passport, Divorce/Death papers and Driver’s licence) before your wedding ceremony.
If born overseas, your overseas passport (it doesn’t matter if it has expired) or your current Australian passport.
If you have been divorced or widowed you will need to supply the original, legal paperwork (or the electronic copy of your divorce order if processed after 17th December 2011), as evidence. A statuary declaration may be filled out if one of the Parties cannot provide their original documentation and have tried every means of trying to obtain it, but are unsuccessful in obtaining it.
You will also need to provide original photo identification e.g. Drivers licence, proof of age card etc.
Then if any or all of your bridal party including page boys/ flower girls, your parents or anyone else that would like to get involved they are more than welcome to attend!
If I have not previously sighted your original documentation you will be required to bring them to your rehearsal so that I can legally sight your original documents.
Also, bring your music if you are providing it on CD, iPhone or iPod so that we can test it on my PA system or at the venue.
There is an exception in limited circumstances where there is one party who is between 16 and 18 years old and wishes to marry a person over 18.
In this instance, the underage person must have the permission of a Judge or Magistrate as well as parental consent.
I can provide you with an overview of the ceremony including the legal and optional components at our meeting. I have an extensive collection of samples, alternatives and resources that I can lend you so that your ceremony reflects you both.
I strongly recommend that you discuss any enquires regarding your ceremony with me and I will endeavour to construct a unique and memorable ceremony for you.
This process for each couple is ever changing to suit your needs so that your ceremony is unique and memorable for all the right reasons.
You are welcome to make any suggestions or incorporate ideas, as your ceremony has to reflect you as a couple. So there is a lot of correspondence back and forth, until you are over the moon with your perfect ceremony.
This certificate is conclusive evidence that your marriage has been solemnized.
It is an important document and is best kept in a safe place.
This Certificate does not provide conclusive evidence of the identity of either the bride or groom and some organisations require a certified marriage certificate as a form of identification (passport, banks etc).
Refer to Official Registered Wedding Certificate link above for more detail. Information regarding changing your surname is included in your free pack given at our first meeting.
I will need their full names for the paperwork.
Your witnesses must not be inebriated or under the influence of drugs.
They can be related to you and/or from overseas, but must understand English (or have a nationally accredited translator present). Traditionally your witnesses are in your bridal party- but they don’t have to be. You may want to include other significant people in your lives e.g. mums, grandparents, other family members.
Who you chose to be your witnesses is entirely up to you!

You will have to contact the relevant Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages and lodge an Application to Register a Change of Name at a charge of approximately $101.40. A change of Name Certificate will then be issues to you and then you can use this certificate to change your identification documents.
Couples of mixed-sex and same-sex can formally declare their relationship at the Registry of Birth, Death and Marriage’s for approximately $240 including a standard certificate. This service is outside of what I am qualified to witness and complete (please refer to Register a Relationship same-sex and heterosexual domestic relationship link above).
